We welcome every(body) regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, or denominational background.
You are invited
to tell your story.
Have you been wounded in a church or faith community?
Maybe you’ve been told your questions were rebellion, your body was untrustworthy, your perspective or theology was dangerous, your submission was more important than your safety.
If that lands close to home, you’re not alone.
This group is a gentle, structured space to name what happened, listen to your body, and begin to reclaim your voice, your boundaries, and—if you choose—your spirituality.
This group will prioritize safety and connection, facilitated by trauma-informed Storywork Coaches who understand the complexity that comes with many faith contexts. This environment comes with no fixing, debating, or trying to convert anyone.
You have permission to go at your own pace—sharing is always optional. This group is for healing, not for theological argument or spiritual policing.
Who is this group for?
This group is a good fit for those who:
Have experienced harm, control, or spiritual abuse in a church or faith community
Feel grief, anger, numbness, or confusion about faith, God, or religion
Notice ongoing impact in their body, relationships, and sense of self
Are looking for support from a non-judgmental community with others who “get it.”
You do not need to currently be part of a religious community to participate. People who have stayed, left, are deconstructing, or don’t know where they are with faith are all welcome.

Meet Lisa & Michael
Lisa Russell has over 20 years of experience in ministry and a lived understanding of both its beauty and its cost. As a Storywork Coach and Spiritual Director, she supports individuals who are deconstructing their faith, experiencing tension with the church, or recovering from church harm and spiritual abuse.
Michael Krommendyk brings 20+ years of vocational church ministry, along with a story of deep hurts in the midst of it. In working through his own story and then beginning to coach at ReStory in 2022, Michael regularly walks with men and women through their own stories of church hurt and spiritual abuse into a place that is unburdened with spiritual platitudes where they can find a deeper healing.
Michael was recently invited to share his story with church on The Restorative Man podcast. You can listen to Part 1 and Part 2 on Spotify now!
